That's tough. First of all, no love for Phil Collen or Steve Clark? Second, as much as I love Slash, he doesn't have nearly the same amount of chops as Murray or Nuno. Everyone might think Extreme was a cheese band, but Nuno did things that would smoke most any other guitarist. Listen to the intro to "Mutha (Don't Wanna Go to School Today)" and tell me that isn't as hard as any Malmsteen lick. But my vote is going to Dave Murray for one major reason...synch. He and Adrian Smith and Janik Gers when he was the only other guitarist in Maiden were always right on top of one another. Dual guitar leads are not something I would think are easy to do. Listen to "The Trooper" once. You think two novice guitarists or even Slash could pull that kind of lead off? I highly doubt it. Slash is good in GnR and Velvet Revolver, but I can't see him playing anything overly difficult or precise like most Maiden material is. He's good for what he does, but Dave Murray has played most every style of guitar that's worth playing and can still pull off a lot of fast, exact leads with tons of shred. If I put together a band and was told that I could pick two guitarists from any pro band, I'd pick Collen and Murray. (Side note: Phil Collen almost did become the second guitar in Maiden before Adrian Smith joined. How's that for band history?)

Well Vic, that's why you're a singer and not a guitar player...First off, there will be more polls to come on this subject...That's what I said in my post...So don't worry, Phil will get a nod...As far as Slash goes, I think you under estimate him a great deal...Sure, his style is completely different, but that doesn't make him a less of a player than the other guys...Slash has something that most other guys don't that is just as important, soul and emotion...I do give kudos and like the other guys mentioned, but put them in a situation like GnR or Velvet Revolver and Slash would bury them...For example, I think techanically, Vai is a better player than Satch, but to me, Satch destroys Vai because Satch has so much more feeling and emotion than Vai, plus he is a much better song writer as well...But, we're comparing apples and oranges here...The poll isn't about just chops alone, it's the WHOLE package...Looks, chops, tone, showmanship, style, emotion, etc...So, back off! ;D

Ah, I see this is gonna be a rivalry Mikey. Works for me. May I state for the record that you didn't ask us to factor in all those criteria for voting to begin with? Ha! I got you man! Now it's time you back off! ;D

Speaking from a guitarist's point of view, I think Slash's technique is SERIOUSLY underrated. His stuff is really hard to cover accurately because he's such a natural, free-flowing player, and a very fast player when he wants to be. I can cover all three guys in Maiden easier than I can cover Slash.
Nuno has better pure technique than most anybody, including Vai and Satriani. But to my ears he never had an individual style. Whenever I hear Nuno, I hear "another pretty good Van Halen disciple".
Slash wins from this group for creating the most distinctive style, and playing some of the most incredibly melodic stuff in the history of rock.

Gonna have to agree with Jimi this time around. Slash all the way.

RANDY RHOADES, EDDIE VANHALEN when they were done with them at the end of the night they sent them to the nearest music shop or luthier to put the fretboard back on the neck.

I just realized that I never voted in this poll. I had to give the nod to Randy simply for personal preference. Jimi makes some really good points but there are a lot of names that got left out of the voting. If EVH was there, he'd have took it from me. I think he's the total package player.

Randy Rhoads. Just think about how far he could have taken his ability if he wouldn't have been killed. He was a very technical guitarist who was only beginning to evolve.

Slash is one of the few 80's guitarists that have lasted into 2000's. Him and Wildman Zakk Wylde still keep the guitar flag flyin. I like Slash in that he is a sloppy bluesy player that rings emotion out of a Les Paul like a wet dish rag. Much like the great SRV brings alot of emotive playing to the music. Playing a billion notes a minute ala nuno or malmsteen is impressive but not my liking.
