I got the Grammy awards on at my house and they are playing the fuck out of this commercial. We're Not Gonna Take it being used to advertise 7up! The rebelion song of a generation used for something like that! And yea I hate the fact they used the Beetles to advertise Sneekers, Led Zepplin to advertise Cadilac, and let's not forget Iggy Pop to advertise Carnival Cruises. (ok that's kinda funny since the song is about drug addiction) Vic I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one.

Well, I haven't seen the commercial, but it shouldn't matter. I guess my first question would be how bad in the hole is Dee and the rest of the guys in TS that they need to sell their intellectual property for commercial use? I guess Still Hungry isn't doing as well as I thought. In any case, if the commercial follows something within the song itself, like if the people in it are fighting or something, then drinking 7Up as a celebration, then maybe, but not if it's just a few guys hanging around playing cards or some shit. I'd even accept it if it were guys and women rocking out and drinking 7Up, but not if the commercial is irrelevant to the song. That would be like using a song like "Suddenly" from Lionel Ritchie for an ad for the Army. Makes no sense. Do I agree with certain songs being used, though? Sure, as long as the product or commercial for the product matches the song being used.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I've seen a few Starbucks commercials with Survivor doing Eye of The Tiger....it fuckin' sucks as well.

Yeah love, if it's the one I'm thinking of, it is lame as hell and a great example of how not to use a song. You can definately tell that the Survivor guys were doing it for the money and why not? They haven't made a good album since Vital Signs anyway.
